Power project developers are demanding increased fuel flexibility in order to maximize utilization of local renewable biomass and recycled fuels such as refuse derived fuels (RDF), local agricultural and industrial wastes, tires, and forestry residues.  These multi-fuel projects are becoming more common for several reasons. First, power producers are able to take advantage of locally available and much less expensive fuel sources. Second, many nations offer feed-in-tariffs that guarantee power sale revenue at often attractive rates. Third, regional biomass plants can achieve near net zero carbon emissions and may solve other environmental problems, such as recycling waste products into a fuel source. Finally, as growing waste volumes continue to fill landfills at alarming rates, converting municipal solid waste (MSW) and industrial waste into energy (WTE) offer smart “green” solutions. Taken together, these plants provide reliable regional energy as well as increased economic and fuel security.

Fuel-flexible circulating fluidized bed (CFB) technology enables these new plants to take maximum advantage this diverse array of fuels.  Biomass fuels, playing an important role in reducing carbon emissions, represent an expanding global market making large scale biomass power highly feasible. For new large-scale projects, biomass brings renewable and carbon credits and, even when co-fired with coal, can result in CO2 emissions well below the OECD financing limit of 750 g CO2/kWh.

In this informative webinar, Boguslaw Krzton, Business Development Director, CEE & Balkans for Sumitomo SHI FW, will discuss how Sumitomo SHI FW’s advanced CFB multifuel technology can provide highly reliable, utility-scale power generation burning a wide-range of biomass and waste fuels while producing extremely low emissions.

  • The low sensitivity of the CFB to fuel quality excursions when using opportunity and other low quality yet economic fuels  

  • How biomass use can be adjusted to match local supply and affordable imports on seasonal basis

  • How the RDF share in overall fuel mix affects the CFB boiler concept

  • 105 MWe Multifuel CFB plant, South-Korea, fueled by PKS, Wood pellets and demolition wood

Bogusław Krzton, Sumitomo SHI FW

Bogusław has 13 years of experience in the boiler business at Sumitomo SHI FW (SFW). In his present role, Bogusław is responsible for business development of power projects in Central & Eastern/South Europe region. Previous experiences in sales and business development in utility and industrial power sectors, renewable energy sources, waste to energy plants, district heating, building automation systems, HVAC and energy management.   
 
Bogusław started his career over 30 years ago with a Master’s Degree in Power Engineering fromt Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, Poland.
