The Growing use of Petcoke for Power Generation using CFB Technology - Americas

The Growing use of Petcoke for Power Generation using CFB Technology - Americas

OVERVIEW

REQUEST FOR ACCESS FORM BELOW

Petroleum coke (petcoke) is produced by deep recovery oil refineries using delayed coking technology. It is a high energy fuel priced below coal, making it very attractive to energy intensive industries, like cement, power, glass, and steel. Circulating fluidized bed technology has enabled petcoke’s growing use in power and steam production since it can cleanly and reliably extract the heat energy from petcoke despite its low volatility, high metal and sulfur levels.

Now offering Certificates of Completion for all our Webinars.

The tightening of maritime fuel sulfur limits by the IMO is expected to drive further use of petcoke in the power and cogeneration sector. As refineries move away from the HSFO market, those with delayed coking capacity will take advantage of discounts to sour crudes with a side result of producing more petcoke. Instead of selling the petcoke into markets with falling prices, building a petcoke power or cogeneration plant would allow refiners to avoid both the HSFO and petcoke markets while securing their long-term future energy needs.

This webinar will review the use of petcoke globally, showing examples of industrial and utility power plants firing petcoke as their primary fuel around the world.  The discussion will include a review of CFB’s technology and its economic, environmental and market benefits compared to conventional boiler technology.  Further, the economics of a refinery with and without a delayed coker and petcoke power plant will be reviewed.

Topics presented in the webinar will include:

  • Examples of industrial and utility power plants firing petcoke around the world

  • Economic comparison between refineries with and without coking and petcoke cogen plants

  • Economic, environmental and market benefits of CFB technology

  • IMO fuel standards

  • Regions that can benefit most from using petcoke for power and steam production

Attendees can ask questions during the Q&A session of the webinar. Register today to secure your spot in this free webinar!
